Lance Macklin photo &autograph sells for £350

Nov 30th, 2011

We have put in a professionaly framed photograph and signature of Lance Macklin, to be auctioned at Bonhams on 1st December 2011, as also being auctioned that day is his Austin Healey 100s famously known as being involved in the worst accident that motor racing has ever witnessed at le Mans in 1955. After much interest out item sold for £350. The Healey itself sold for a staggering £843,000 !

THIS ITEM IS BEING AUCTIONED AT BONHAMS ON DECEMBER 1st. BROOKLANDS - LOT 108

Original period black and white photograph of Lance Macklin after probably the biggest win of his career at the International Trophy meeting, Silverstone May 1952. The photo has been mounted and framed with a superb Macklin autograph, blue ink on paper, which we have taken from a period autograph book (in Mike's personal collection).

We decided to enter this at Bonhams because at the same auction, Lance Macklin's 1955 Le Mans Austin Healey 100S is also being sold, and is expected to fetch over £500,000 !!  This is the very car which when being driven by Macklin was involved in the worst accident that motor racing has ever witnessed at Le Mans in 1955.  Macklin's Healey was struck from behind by Pierre Levegh's works entered Mercedes 300SLR which then flew into the crowd killing the driver and over 80 specators.
