HSCC Oulton Park race report

Aug 30th, 2017

The August bank holiday saw the Formula Ford circus role in to Oulton Park for the 6th round of the 2017 championship.

With limited testing both Geoff and Michael headed out for the Saturday morning practice sessions before getting ready for there respected qualifying sessions.
It was Michael up first, leading the group 1 cars out on to the circuit. Michael was able to post a best time of a 1.51.1 which would put him third in the group and 5th overall. Geoff was up next in session two, delivering some quick, consistent laps but not matching his practice lap time left him slightly out of position on the grid and with work to do.
It wasn't until Monday Morning when the first of the two championship races would get underway, with both of the team drivers looking to make up for qualifying and get a good result. Michael had an eventful race after starting in P5, a race long tussle would see him finish the race in P4 and looking forward to making more ground up in the later race. Geoff would also have a good tussle throughout, moving up a number of positions from where he qualified.
With the top 12 cars automatically through to the second of the championship races, the rest of the pack, including team driver Geoff Underwood would battle it out to get themselves a place in the second of the points scoring races. After a spin at turn 2, Geoff's race would take an unfortunate turn, trying to make the ground back up that was lost, Geoff was involved in a racing incident with another car that would bring out the red flag and Geoff's weekend to a close. Thankfully we can report Geoff is OK, back on his feet and looking forward to returning to action at the Silverstone finals in October.
Michael would start the 2nd of his races P4, after yet more battling and race long action, he would finish P3, not the result set he was hoping for but coming on to his two favourite tracks of the season, he's very much looking forward to finishing the season on a high note and hoping to return to winning ways.
Round 7 will take place on the Snetterton 200 on September the 23rd!
