Race Car Preparation

At our workshop at the Silverstone Circuit

Speedsport have a wealth of experience in running a wide variety of race cars, with over 20 years of success on the track.

In the early nineties much success was achieved with Darren Manning in Formula First, Formula Vauxhall Junior and Formula Vauxhall, whilst Darren Turner was victorious in the 1993 Brands Hatch Formula First Winter Series in our Speedsport team machine.

We competed in British Formula 3 from 1996 – 1999, and amongst other achievements scored two historic victories in the British Grand Prix F3 support race in 1996 and 1998 with Darren Manning, and scored a 9th. and a 5th. place finish in the prestigious Macau Grand Prix again with Darren at the wheel.

Since then we’ve worked on a variety of projects and racing programmes, with chief mechanic Kevin Young now entering his 16th. consecutive year in charge of workshop preparation and engineering.

At present we are very excited to be back in Formula 3, running Callum MacLeod in the European Open F3 Championship for the 2009 season in a Dallara 306.

We have had a superb first season, with Callum winning the Copa D'Espania class for the 2006 cars, with seven wins and numerous poduim finishes on some of Europe's finest circuits. Callum also finished 3rd and 4th. overall at Spa, and fifth overall at Jerez.

We have also looked after a Radical SR3 for the past 3 seasons, and have run this is a test programme this year, with some races later on in the season at Silverstone and Dijon, where David Harrison qualified a sensational 6th.overall and first SR£ by almost 2 seconds !

We love historic cars, and our lovely ex Tim Brise Merlyn Mk20A which we restored from chassis upwards scored another convincing victory at Silverstone on May 9th. driven by Callum. Pole by 1.6sec and and flag to flag win by over 9 secs speaks for itself.

This car was also driven by Mike Newton at Oulton Park, Simon Moulton at Mallory Park, and at Silverstone in October by Westie Mitchell where it finished 4th. and enabled Westie to clinch the Historic Formula Ford Championship after destroying his own Merlyn at Mallory Park in August.

This Merlyn is available for race hire at selected HSCC meetings this year – please phone or email for details.

Our latest project is a 1988 Lola Larousse F1 car which ran for the first time on July 14th. on Silverstone's Stowe Circuit. We will now further rebuild this machine and send the engine for rebuild before it next runs in anger.

Our workshop and daily rates are very reasonable, and we are happy to undertake work on any race cars.
