SPA LMS CHALLENGE..MUCH MORE TO COME FOR DARREN

Posted on Aug 22, 2007

Darren Manning has had a pretty hectic schedule of late. Not only is he contesting the IndyCar Series in America for AJ Foyt Racing, the former BAR F1 test driver admits he has always wanted to race in sportscars and was delighted to be given the opportunity.

Darren was invited to join the Embassy Racing Team for the Belgium round of the LMS series at the challenging Spa Francorchamps circuit on the weekend of 18th August.

Matching team-mate, and regular pilot Warren Hughes, from the opening laps, Darren produced a measured and consistent performance which saw him credited with 2nd fastest race-lap. Despite starting the race from 3rd on the grid, and running in second place for the opening hours of the race, the Embassy Racing Radical was delayed for over an hour in the pits due to a problem with a sticking throttle on the Judd V8 motor, returning to the track to take a very creditable 6th position at the flag.

Team principal, Jonathan France, commented on Darren’s performance “We couldn’t really have asked for more. Darren showed his true credentials as one of motor-racing’s top drivers this weekend, and I’m only sorry that the end result doesn’t tell the true story of how well both the drivers and the team performed. We look forward to making amends at our home race at Silverstone next month.”
