Two wins from two rounds for Callum and Speedsport!

Jun 7th, 2010

Speedsport driver Callum Macleod continued his strong start to the season in the European F3 Open with another win at Jarama.

The weekend was far from easy for Callum and the team as they arrived at the circuit on Friday having never tested the car at Jarama. This was to prove to be a big disadvantage as the majority of the teams are based in Spain and use the track as one of their main test circuits.

By the end of the Friday testing Callum was over a second off the pace and was not overly optomistic about the weekend ahead. However, Callum and his manager/engineer Mike O'Brien made some big changes to the car over night and he was much more competetive in qualifying.

Callum qualified in 8th place, six tenths off of poleman and championship rival Marco Barba. The car was better but still not quite right and so more changes were made. In race one Callum was right on the pace, matching the leaders' laptimes throughout the race. After a strong opening couple of laps he was in 6th place where Mike advised him to stay until the finish in order to get the reverse grid Pole for sunday's race 2.

This proved to be a very good decision, with the car now perfect for Callum's driving style he was able to get a great start from pole to take a dominant lights to flag victory.
