Mitchell seals HFF title at Silverstone

Speedsport's beautiful Merlyn Mk20A was used to great effect by Historic Formula Ford competitor Westie Mitchell at Silverstone on October 17th.

Westie had been leading the championship until the fateful Mallory Park race in August when his nasty accident at Gerrards bend caused the race to be red flagged, which in turn lead to the dramatic accidend of Westie's nearest rival Amanda Whittacker.

Simon Moulton was driving our Merlyn at Mallory and narrowly averted disaster as Whittacker's cartwheeling machine luckily only struck a glancing blow to our Merlyn.

Mitchell missed several events whilst getting over his injuries, but was just about fit enough to drive at Silverstone, needing to finish in the top six and score two more points than Amanda to clinch the title. The Speedsport Merlyn behaved beautifully, and Westie qualified 5th. and was running as high as second place, before an action packed last few laps saw him drop to sixth before recoving to 4th.place, enough to seal the title!
