Draghicescu and O'Brien star at Walter Hayes

Nov 14th, 2013

Mark Draghicescu drove superbly in the Historic Final at the Walter Hayes Trophy, only narrowly missing out on a debut victory. Having finished a stunning eight in his heat against much more modern machinery, Mark was placed third on the grid for the Historic Final.

A titanic four way lead battle featuring Mark, Tarling [in much more 'modern' 1980 Van Diemen], HFF Champion Sam Mitchell and HFF race winner David Wild, saw Draghicescu lead over the line on many laps, but he fell to fourth on the final lap finishing a scant 0.7sec behind the race winner in what was very accurately described as the best race of the whole meeting.

Meanwhile young Michael O'Brien contested the HSCC single seater race for which both qualifying and the race itself were held in extremely wet conditions. Easily dominating the HFF class, Michael was contesting a podium position with cars such as a F2 Chevron, and finished a very creditable four overall and first in class.

Both Merlyns are available for Winter testing and racing next season, so please call us for further info.
